PAHOKEE -- Does the City of Pahokee owe the former city manager more than $70,000 in unused sick and vacation time? At their April 13 meeting, some city commissioners wanted to see more documentation before a check is written.
Chandler Williamson resigned as city manager effective April 2.
“In 5 years he never took sick leave or a vacation?” asked Pahokee City Commissioner Sara Perez. She asked to see a copy of his contract.
The city attorney noted the contract initially allowed 80 hours of sick leave and 120 hours vacation time a year. She said the sick leave was increased to 120 hours when the contract was amended in 2017.
Mayor Keith Babb said there were 30 or 40 leave requests. “Most are not a total of 8 hours per day,” he added.
Perez asked how many hours a week the contract required Williamson to work.
Commissioner Regina Bohlen suggested the matter be tabled in order for newly elected commissioners Perez and Juan Gonzalez Jr. to have time to review copies of the contracts, emails and other related documents.
Commissioners agreed to table a vote on payment to Williamson until the next meeting.
Perez also suggested the city have a forensic audit done prior to selection of a new city manager. Commissioners agreed to put this on the agenda for a future meeting.
In other business at their April 13 meeting, Regina Bohlen was chosen to serve as vice mayor. The city charter requires the city commission vote for a new vice mayor from among their members at their first regular meeting in April.
