LABELLE – September is here! It is time for fall festivities to return to LaBelle. Scarecrows on the Wharf returns for its third year just in time to bring some much-needed fall cheer.

MOPS of LaBelle invites the community to their Third Annual “Scarecrows on the Wharf” event taking place on Desoto Avenue from Oct. 17-31.

The event is open to everyone. Businesses, community groups, youth groups, scout groups, church groups, families, and individuals can participate. Join the fun by creating scarecrows to be displayed at the wharf during the event. Traditional, whimsical, and those reflecting a special theme and/or promoting a business, organization, or event may be entered. Entries may include multiple scarecrows or whimsical characters along with props and decorations to reflect the theme of your display.

The corona virus impacted small businesses, non-profit organizations, and families. MOPS understands the effects this may have caused financially and has reduced pricing to participate this year.

Eight-foot-wide by eight-foot-deep spaces are available for charitable donations of $30 for businesses or for-profit organizations, $15 for non-profit organizations, and $10 for families. Online registration is available. Proceeds from the event will pay for the charter and other supplies for MOPS of LaBelle.

Prizes will be awarded by a team of judges on Saturday, Oct. 24. Judges will select their favorite displays for first, second, and third place. People’s Choice Awards are determined by online votes from Oct. 17 through 23. Winners receive a prize and will be identified by signs posted to their display site and in media releases.

Installation begins Friday, Oct. 9 and must be completed by Sunday, Oct. 18 to enter the People’s Choice Awards contest. Displays installed from Oct. 19-23 will only be eligible to participate in the judges voting.

Displays must be removed by the group who built them by Saturday, Nov. 7. Teachers, scout leaders, business owners and anyone interested in participating should email MOPSOFLABELLE@GMAIL.COM or call 239-206-9881 for more details.
