OKEECHOBEE- The Okeechobee County School District is holding a retirement reception on Feb. 26 for outgoing superintendent Ken Kenworthy.
Kenworthy is retiring after 35 years with the school district and the reception will offer a chance for community members and district employees to wish him well on the next stage of his life.
The district has put together a short online survey for people to share their pictures with Ken, a message wishing him well or their favorite memories of him during his time with Okeechobee County Schools.
The reception is scheduled from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Feb. 26 in the School Board room at the district office, with a presentation set to begin at 4 p.m.
Kenworthy was first appointed as superintendent in Okeechobee back in 2011, replacing Dr. Patricia Cooper. He got his start in the district in 1989, working his way up from a classroom teacher, and held several administrative posts for Okeechobee schools before he applied and received the superintendent's job.
On Jan. 9 the Okeechobee County School Board selected Dylan Tedders to serve as their interim superintendent. Tedders’ first day as interim superintendent will be March 1. Current superintendent Ken Kenworthy’s last day will be Feb. 29. The board officially accepted his retirement at the special meeting on Jan. 9. Kenworthy has accepted a position with the Florida School Boards Insurance Trust.
