OKEECHOBEE — Vanessa Stephen, wife of Sheriff Noel E. Stephen, said the problem between her and her husband is personal and has nothing to do with him running for sheriff. "I would appreciate it if everyone would allow us some privacy in this matter," she said.
The comment came in response to a statement the sheriff sent to the newspaper earlier this week.
Okeechobee County Sheriff Noel E. Stephen issued the following statement on Saturday, June 17, 2023:
"I filed for my third bid as sheriff of Okeechobee County in May 2023. I have violated the unwavering trust of my loving wife which was all my fault! I am truly ashamed of myself! I am unsure as to my future! I am sincerely SORRY!"
