LABELLE – The Swamp Cabbage Festival Committee has announced the Grand Marshal for the 2024 Swamp Cabbage Festival Parade will be Shawn Reed.

On Jan. 16, the festival committee posted the announcement on Facebook:

“Shawn's outstanding commitment to the Hendry County community, his lengthy service with the Hendry County Sheriff's Office, and his dedication to various community initiatives make him an exemplary candidate for this prestigious position. Shawn's devotion to the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office began in 1999, and he has consistently demonstrated his unwavering commitment over the past 24 years. Throughout his career, he has tirelessly served the residents of LaBelle and the entire county, exhibiting a deep sense of responsibility and a strong work ethic.

“Before embarking on his career with the Sheriff's Office, Shawn proudly served in the United States Navy, exemplifying his dedication to serving his country. His dedication to duty and service did not stop there; he has continued to contribute to his community by raising his children within Hendry County and remaining an active and engaged member of his local area. Shawn's passion for youth development and community well-being is evident through his involvement in activities such as coaching flag football at the First Baptist Church and assisting with the Hendry County Wrestling Club. His efforts in these roles have positively impacted countless children within our community, shaping their lives for the better.

“Furthermore, Shawn has been a fervent participant in the Swamp Cabbage festival for a significant part of his career. His unwavering commitment to community events doesn't end there; he has actively participated in various community-oriented initiatives, including Relay for Life, LaBelle Downtown Revitalization Corporation, LaBelle Chamber, and countless others. His tireless support and involvement in these events demonstrate his dedication to the betterment of Hendry County and its citizens. Shawn Reed's profound dedication to his community, extensive service record, and tireless efforts to improve the lives of those he serves make him the ideal choice for the role of Grand Marshal during the Swamp Cabbage celebration.
