The Weekly Clothesline: Put on the armor of Christ…

Posted

When you put on something new, how does it make you feel? Sometimes, I feel special. I look at myself in the mirror and don’t feel quite as old! “Putting on something new” reminds me of a passage from Romans, Chapter 13. Paul is preaching about the relationship between Christians and government, what separates Christians from “the others.” He tells his listeners that they must respect the government “for the authorities are God’s servants.” It might be difficult to apply this teaching in our world today. Still, a Christian must believe that God is sovereign, and He is always in control.

Paul says, “owe no one anything except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.” He reminded us that love does no wrong and that love, therefore, fulfills the law. Okay, by now, you’re thinking…what does this have to do with “putting on new clothes.” Paul ends this chapter with, “Let us then lay aside the works of darkness and put on the armor of light…put on the Lord Jesus Christ…”

Imagine how different we would be, if when we donned a new outfit, we were reminded of “putting on the Lord Jesus Christ.” In Ephesians Chapter 6, Paul goes a step further when he calls “putting on the Lord Jesus” as “armor” for protection.

The point is this: we are covered, head to foot, with the armor of Christ, the blood of Jesus. So, remember what’s protecting you the next time you wear a new outfit!

armor, god, servant, jesus, lord, christ
