The Weekly Clothesline: We are never alone

Posted

Jesus talked a lot about faith, about faith the size of a mustard seed, about faith that can move mountains. Considering all the destruction our state has been through in the past year, along with the horrific events happening around the world now, our faith is critical day in and day out.

Thinking about the terrible water destruction of our last hurricane made me think of Noah…the craziness of building a boat on dry land, filling it with animals of every kind, along with Noah’s small family, and then watching everything not in the boat being destroyed! Faith… that’s what it looks like in spades: answering God’s call and following God’s direction, often toward something that makes no sense.

The words of a contemporary Christian song come to mind … I will build a boat … and with Your wind in my sails, Your love never fails … so let it rain. That’s the kind of faith we all need, not just in bad times but every day of our lives. And Noah isn’t the only Old Testament figure with amazing faith. There’s Moses, Abraham, Sara, Rebecca, Joshua, Ruth, all the prophets, and so many others. But they called on the gift of faith to get them through whatever they faced.

So, whether you live alone or with someone or have family nearby or family living a distance away, you are never alone. Your faith is your anchor. Do not depend on mortal things. God and His love will bring you through anything.
