LABELLE – LaBelle VFW 10100 is collecting donations for a local solider and his platoon deployed in Syria.

The VFW also has holiday cards available to sign and send to the solider.

The solider is a member of VFW Post #10100. He is a local firefighter, and a member of the Soul Harvesters Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club.

The VFW is collecting snacks such as chips, salsa, nuts, cookies, beef jerky, non-melting candy and trail mix in packaging that is not easily crushed. They are also collected homemade cookies and “cake in a jar” (a cake baked in a canning jar). It’s important that all items be in containers that will not be easily crushed.

They are also collecting games such as playing cards, poker chips, crossword puzzle books and other game books.

If you would like to receive a letter from the solider, be sure to include paper, envelopes, address labels and pens. They won’t need stamps.

Community members are encouraged to send photos and notes to show your support. One suggestion is a daily calendar with an encouraging note on each page.
