LABELLE — Representatives from the Whisper Creek Community Chapel had the privilege of meeting with Kelly McWhorter, program coordinator and Angie Davis, social services worker from the LaBelle Salvation Army. WC Chapel was able to donate $6,000 to this worthy and helpful organization. Each year, the chapel donates monies taken in from their offerings and other special functions in excess of their operating monies. Usually, the Chapel has a bake sale and spaghetti dinner as fundraisers to help have donation monies. This year, due to Covid concerns, these events did not take place, so the chapel had a special donation Sunday in order to help collect monies to donate to the Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army of LaBelle provides services and resources to help those in need in the LaBelle and Clewiston areas. They provide assistance with rent, utilities, electric costs, and prescriptions. They also have a food pantry, shower program and partner with Toys for Tots at Christmas time as well as provide Thanksgiving and Christmas food boxes. They provide fundraiser support for schools and school supply distributions. They partner with other agencies such as the Kiwanis, Early Learning Coalition and help provide commodities for people. They refer folks to other agencies when it is deemed necessary. The Salvation Army accepts donations of non-perishable, unopened food items that they then pass on to their clients.
The Whisper Creek Community Chapel feels privileged to be a part of helping this worthy organization and hopes their donation will be used to help the children of LaBelle in some way.
