OKEECHOBEE — A 68-year-old woman is accused of kicking several nurses at Raulerson Hospital. Constance Berchem was charged with four counts battery on a healthcare worker on Sunday, March 7 at approximately 10 a.m.
Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremiah Camino responded to the hospital in regards to the incident. When he spoke with the nurses, they told him Berchem came into the emergency room complaining of general weakness and pain. An IV was inserted into her arm, and she then said she did not want help from the nurses and wanted to leave. When they told her she could not leave with an IV in her arm, she began kicking them in the stomach, arms and upper body. One of the nurses had a 4-inch bruise on her arm, and another had multiple bruises.
Berchen was transported to the county jail. Her bond was set at $4,000.
