OKEECHOBEE — After reportedly running someone off the road, a local man hit a fence and kept going.

On Sunday, May 23 at approximately 12:45 p.m., Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Deputies Misei Esquivel, Karson Reno and Noah Wenrick responded to the 5300 block of State Road 710 Southeast in regards to a reckless driver complaint. Dispatch notified them they were looking for an older model F-150 which had run into a fence, run someone off the road and kept going.

Reno arrived at the accident scene first, while Wenrick attempted to locate and stop the truck. Wenrick caught up to the truck near mile marker 124 on State Road 70 East and noticed it had extensive front end damage.

According to the arrest report, the driver, identified as 64-year-old Ricky Buck, told Wenrick he had not been in an accident and the damage was caused a long time ago when he hit a tree on his own property. He then said the truck was old and he did not care what it looked like.

The woman who was run off the road said she was traveling towards town on State Road 710 Southeast when the truck veered into her lane, running her off the road. She turned around and followed it as it swerved down 710 and then got onto State Road 70 East.

Buck was charged with DUI and leaving the scene of an accident with damage. His bond was set at $1,000.
