McPherson, Cowan-Williams win seats on Pahokee City Commission

PAHOKEE – Pahokee city voters chose two new city commissioners April 2 in the Municipal Election Runoff.

In the Commission Group 1 race, Everett McPherson Sr. received 270 votes. Monique Gordon received 235 votes.

In the Commission Group 2 race, Sanquetta Cowan- Williams received 329 votes. Sara Perez received 193 votes.

Pahokee will also make other changes in city government, The City of Pahokee had three questions on the ballot on March 19 ballot:

Question 1: “Shall the City of Pahokee’s Charter be amended to add the city attorney as an additional charter officer?”  The question received 266 "yes" votes and 235 "no" votes.

Question 2: “Shall Section 4.02 of the City of Pahokee’s Charter be amended to require that all candidates for Mayor and City Commissioner reside within the city limits for at least one year prior to qualifying; continuously reside within the city after elections to office and require the presentation of certain documents as proof of residency prior to qualifying?” This passed with 436 voting "yes," and 66 voting "no."

Question 3 was: "Shall Section 5.02 of the City of Pahokee’s Charter be amended to require newly elected officials of the City Commission be sworn into office at the beginning of the next properly noticed city commission meeting following official certification of election results?" The question received 408 "yes" votes and 44 "no" votes.
