South Bay and Belle Glade join together for Inaugural Community in the Park event

Posted

SOUTH BAY — April 14 was a beautiful day to bring the community of South Bay and Belle Glade together, at Tanner Park in South Bay, and share some incredible experiences.

The afternoon began and ended with the Palm County Sheriff’s helicopter landing and taking off. It was truly an amazing event, well received by the community members of South Bay and Belle Glade. The kids had a blast. They enjoyed face painting, jewelry making, a dunk tank, a petting zoo and more. Many of these kids had never seen a donkey let alone a zebra up close.

The purpose of the community event in the park is to foster interest in various trades to teens and young adults amongst the community. By showcasing a variety of trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, automotive repair, and more, we aim to introduce young people to alternative career paths that may not require a traditional college education. Through hands-on demonstrations and conversations with professionals in these fields, attendees will have the chance to explore different options for their future and learn about the opportunities available to them.

Event sponsors hope to remove any barriers that may prevent community members from participating in afterschool activities. By creating a fun and engaging environment where participants can learn new skills and discover potential career paths, they hope to inspire and empower young people in Belle Glade to pursue their passions and achieve their goals.

With the help of sponsors and the support of The Palm Beach County Sheriff Office, Highway Patrol and their departments - the Emergency Field Force, SWAT, Mounted Unit, Bomb Squad, Community Policing Unit, Aviation Unit and Commanders from the Glades.

Sponsors of the event are Rescue Life, Autism Collier, Place of Hope, Project Lift, Okeechobee Steakhouse (provided a BBQ lunch), CrimestoppersPBC, Furry Friends, Toff & Talulah, Jupiter Bounce House, Simplified Horsemanship, Latham Marine, U.S. Army Recruiters, Fit Phil, Fantastic Finishes, and Soul Grateful.

The kids had an unforgettable day.

Special guests included South Bay Mayor Joe Kyles, South Bay Commissioner Albert Polk, and newly elected Commissioner Barbara King.
