HENDRY COUNTY-  The first Friday in May is National School Lunch Hero Day, a day that is dedicated to the awesome humans who make the cafeterias and schools a better place to be. This day provides students and communities an opportunity to create ways to recognize their school heroes.

Sodexo-Hendry County Schools food service employees celebrated the occasion by wearing special t-shirts, capes, and even superhero socks.

"Friday of last week your cafeteria staff were wearing shirts with an "S" on the front...  That's because we celebrated School Lunch Hero Day!!!!!" explained Sodexo General Manger for Hendry County Schools. "School Lunch Hero Day is a celebration of the 'heroes' who serve meals to our students every day!  I wanted to share with you a video of Hendry County Schools' Heroes and how we celebrated our special day! Many thanks to the Hendry County/Sodexo Food Service Team...  YOU ARE AWESOME!!!!!"

Superintendent Mike Swindle responded, "I am a firm believer that it takes everyone to educate our students! You and your staff are definitely an important part and Superheros in the process!"

Students were excited to see their favorite food service employees in their superhero gear as they entered the cafeteria.

"They always make sure we have healthy food to eat, and snacks," said one first grader. "I think it's cool they're wearing Superman shirts, they are kinda like healthy food superheroes."
