One killed in multiple truck collision

One killed in multiple truck collision

HENDRY COUNTY — A 28-year-old Immokalee man was killed early Tuesday morning, Dec. 26, when the truck he was a passenger in was involved in a collision with two semi trucks.

The accident occured shortly after 6:30 a.m. on U.S. 27 near Stitt Ranch Road. 

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 23-year-old Lehigh Acres man was driving a pickup truck on the outside lane travelling east.  In the same lane and in front of the pickup truck was a semi truck driven by a  51-year-old Winterhaven man.  Behind these vehicles and in the center lane was a second semi truck. driven by a 42-year-old man from Hialeah. For unknown reasons, the driver of the pickup truck failed to slow down and hit the semi in front of him, then entered the other lane and collided with the side of the second semi. 

There were no injuries to either semi driver.  The driver of the truck and two of his passengers sustained minor injuries. A third passenger was seriously injured and the fourth  was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
