LABELLE -- The General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC) Labelle Community Women's Club is collecting used sneakers for a two-fold project. The first is recycling for a good cause -- the environment. Sneakers in landfills cause chemicals to be released into the air and soil. "Got Sneakers" will repurpose footwear into new surfaces for playgrounds and tracks. The second purpose of the project is to raise money. Got Sneakers will pay between 25 cents and $2, depending on the condition of the shoes. These funds will be donated to Camp Boggy Creek. Donations of used sneakers can be left in the box at the Barron Library.

Only sneakers will be accepted -- no metal cleats, no bowling shoes or golf shoes.

Camp Boggy Creek was founded in 1996 by Paul Newman and General H. Norman Schwarzkopf on the simple premise that every child, no matter their illness, should have the opportunity to experience the spirit and friendships that go hand in hand with camp.

Since 1996, Camp Boggy Creek has made it possible for children with serous illnesses enjoy a camp experience in a safe, medically-sound environment. The 232-acre camp is near Orlando and serves children who have been diagnosed with a serious illness. CCamp Boggy Creek relies on the generosity of individuals, foundations, corporations, medical partners and voluntary health organizations who believe in our mission and the programs that impact campers and their families. Donations support all program activities, including 24/7 medical care, meals and lodging — everything needed to make a week of camp an unforgettable experience for children with serious illnesses.
