The Weekly Clothesline: Don’t be troubled…

Posted

We’re part way through Lent and I wonder if we are already caught up in the earthly preparations for Easter. It’s not about bunnies and chickens; it’s about the greatest gift of all: eternal life in heaven with our God. It’s easy to get caught up in worldly things, but I suggest when you find yourself overwhelmed with the world, especially during the season of Lent, plan some time each day to delve into the Gospel of John.

In seminary, we were tasked to read the entire Gospel of John…at one sitting! And what a gift it was for me! I learned something very important as I devoured John’s Gospel: John knew the heart and soul of Jesus, and John’s words always take me to a place of peace and forgiveness.

Among the many things Jesus said and did, He taught us the real meaning of love. He forgave sinners and offered them a second chance at life. He washed the feet of his apostles and said, “Do as I have done.” And before he was led away to be crucified, he said: “Don’t be troubled… don’t worry… just believe in Me… I’m the answer to all your questions.”

We don’t always follow through with plans to become more spiritual, especially during Lent. But while we fall short, God is consistent. His love never falters. His promises never change. If Lenten’s sacrifice has almost passed you by, it’s not too late. It’s never too late.
