Traffic crash closes both southbound lanes of U.S. 27

An update has been provided by the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office at 10:25 a.m. concerning the traffic crash in the area of Bass Road and U.S. 27.

DOT has arrived on scene and traffic cones have been set to assist with the flow of traffic. The inside lane of travel on northbound U.S. 27 is being utilized to move southbound traffic through the crash site. Both FHP, Hendry County Sheriff’s Office and Clewiston Fire have remained on scene. Updates will continue to be provided as they are made available.

At approximately 6:40 a.m. on Dec. 26, Hendry County deputies along with Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene of a traffic crash in the area of Bass Road and U.S. 27 involving two tractor trailers and a truck; both agencies are present at this time.

Currently, both southbound lanes of traffic are closed. Deputies are alternating southbound traffic to the northbound lanes to continue the flow of travelers. Department of Transportation is enroute to assist with marking lanes of travel with traffic cones.

It is estimated that road closures will continued for approximately 4 to 6 hours in order to complete traffic investigation and/or the removal of vehicles. Updates will provided as they are made available.

A secondary crash was reported by deputies at approximately 7:04 a.m. in the area of Stitt Ranch. All vehicles have been cleared and removed from the scene.
