ARCADIA -- DeSoto Correctional Institution (DCI) officers arrested a woman attempting to bring 100 grams of cocaine and heroin into the prison on June 27.
The 44 -year-old woman, Melissa Webster, had her infant grandchild with her along with the contraband during a visitation at DCI. DCI officers discovered the drugs during a search and the DeSoto County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) was contacted.
Webster was placed under arrest and charged with with Trafficking in Heroin, Trafficking in Cocaine, Introduction of Contraband into a Correctional Facility, Child Abuse/Neglect and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
The Department of Children and Families responded and provided care and safe placement for the infant.
DCSO's K9 Liberty conducted a free air sniff of Webster’s vehicle in the parking lot and an additional 687.7 grams of heroin and cocaine were located inside, alongside a baby’s car seat and other essentials.
Webster is currently being held without bond.
