LABELLE- The LaBelle Anglers, a group of local high school and middle school students that fish competitively, have been working hard to earn their spot in the State Bass Fishing Championships held in Okeechobee this June. Only 65 teams out of 138 teams around the state earned eligibility, and LaBelle students earned four of those spots.
“They had to fish as many tournaments as possible because to make it to state, it was point based,” explained their Coach, Jeannie Collins. “The more you fished the more points you earned.”
Sodrel Construction has stepped up to sponsor the four teams, paying the $110 per student entry fee. The coach and team were very grateful for this sponsorship. However, the hardworking, focused teams are still searching for sponsors for lodging and food during the tournament.
When they go to compete at the State Championships on June 12 and 13, in Okeechobee, they will each receive an impressive looking state championship ring, along with bragging rights of hooking some big bass.
