Excellent after-season for the Clewiston Cougars

Posted

CLEWISTON — The coaches, team moms and athletes of the Clewiston Cougars have been playing some serious after season games. Yet, even with 2020 being a tough year all around, the talent of these young players has not gone unnoticed. The younger players on the Clewiston Cougars 8U team fought hard against Okeechobee, during the Battle of the Lake, with a winning score of 7-0. The older players of 14U made history when they won against a team from New Jersey.

“First time in Clewiston Cougars history to play an out-of-state team and win. Man, this year has been amazing to me and my boys, but we ain’t finished yet. Catch us on Jan. 2, in Haines City. All top Florida teams will be there, so it’s going to be nice. Thanks to my coaches and team moms for being there with me on my first year head coaching, and to the parents for letting me coach their kids and believing in me,” Clewiston Cougars 14U head football coach Marcus Sanders said. “It was all a dream until I decided to chase it. Hope I’m making you proud, Daddy. It’s only the beginning. The muck, baby!”

The Clewiston Cougars played hard and won the National Third Annual Coach Mac Holiday Bowl in Fort Lauderdale against the Rahway, N.J., Chiefs with a final score of 35-14.

The team’s coaches also shared that they were in need of donations from the community. “These are after-season games so we as coaches are kind of on our own,” TaVarus Holmes-Hayes explained. Their plan is to rent three large passenger vans to transport the young, talented athletes to Haines City. There they will play in the State Championships on Jan. 2, an event boasting battles amongst the best teams from a cross the state, and will determine “statewide supremacy.”
