OHS Bass Club is Florida Team of the Year

Posted

OKEECHOBEE -- Okeechobee High School Bass Club was first established in 2016 and since then has been a competitive force that other teams across the state have come to fear.

The 2023-2024 Brahman Anglers, made up of six two-man teams with eight volunteer captains have dominated the field and set OHS records. Fishing 16 tournaments since September 2023, the Brahmans set out to find the five biggest bass on the lake each tournament and to be the best club in the State of Florida.

For the first time in OHS history a Brahman team took the title for 2023-2024 Team of the Year as the points leader for the statewide trail.

In a field of 188 teams, Hunter Daniels (Senior) & Ragyn Mohney (Sophomore) earned 3,266 points making them the #1 team in the state! Hunter & Ragyn were also winners of the 4-tournament Southern Trail Series. Fellow Brahmans, Tanner Seabolt (Senior) and Finn Taylor (Senior) took second place in the statewide trail just 22 points behind.

Another huge accomplishment for the Brahmans this year is that 3 teams had a first place finish in the 16-tournament series. In October, Hunter & Ragyn finished first place on the Harris Chain of Lake with 22.89 lbs.

In December, Tanner & Finn took the win on Lake Okeechobee with 21.38 lbs. The weekend of April 13 and 14, , Lane Davis (Junior) and Korbyn Lewis (Junior) wrapped up the season with 21.99 lbs. for the top spot on the Kissimmee Chain.

All three teams have qualified to fish the State Championship on Lake Seminole in Bainbridge, Ga. in June. Hunter, Ragyn, Tanner and Finn also qualified for the High School Bassmaster National Championship being held on Lake Chickamauga in Dayton, Tenn. in August.

The Brahman Anglers recognize their success this season would not have been possible without the support of the volunteer captains and many local sponsors that have financially supported the team.
