Inmate sends officers a thank-you

My name is Dawn Cheree Dowd. I am an inmate in the Okeechobee County Jail. My mother was admitted on Aug. 19, 2021, to Raulerson Hospital with pneumonia, a colapsed lung, and C. diff (a germ that causes severe diarrhea and colitis). Her cell phone was not working for for me to call from here in the pod.

I tried calling the hospital but didn’t get an answer. I think it’s because of where I was calling from. I put in several requests and spoke to deputies and a corporal with no result and very disappointing answers.

On Aug. 4, I spoke with Deputy Falconburg and he listened to my situation and I explained I hadn’t spoke to my mother since she was placed in ICU. Very shortly after to speaking to Deputy Falconburg, Sgt. Coleman spoke with me about the code I needed for the nurse to speak with me. Now I was prepared and I was allowed a to use a direct line to call my mother. My mother has been placed in a regular room, but she has a way to go. It was good to hear her voice.

While I was in lockdown, Cpt. Smith and Sgt. Coleman allowed me to contact my family about my mother.

I would like to nominate Deputy Falconburg, Cpl. Smith and Sgt. Coleman for an Attaboy and a special thank you for going above and beyond their duties during these hard times. They are kind and compassionate.

Thank you,
D. Cheree Dowd

P.S. I am sending a similar letter about this up the chain of command.
