The Okeechobee High School Lady Brahman basketball program held an awards banquet on March 14 to recognize and reward players after the end of their season.
OKEECHOBEE — The Okeechobee High School Lady Brahman basketball program held an awards banquet on March 14 to recognize and reward players after the end of their season.
The Lady Brahmans beat Bayside in the district quarterfinal to advance to the semifinal this season where they fell to eventual the district champion Eau Gallie.
At the banquet, the team’s MVP Award was given to Callie Phillips. Phillips led the team in assists this season with 56. The Coaches Award went to Chole McCullers, who is leaning toward East Tennessee State University to carry on her college career.
Leta Adamo was named the Most Valuable Offensive Player. Leta recently signed with Palm Beach State to continue playing basketball at the next level. At her signing Leta thanked her parents who she said had made a lot of big sacrifices and provided support during her journey.
Most Valuable Defensive Player was given to Semaj Jasper. Semaj is weighing a few different options on where to continue her basketball career at in college. She led the Lady Brahmans in defensive rebounds this season with 119 and in blocks with 26.
Finally the Lady Brahman Hustle Award went to Justice Shanks. During a thrilling win over Heritage near the end of the regular season, Justice was fouled while making a jumpshot that tied the game in the final seconds. She made the ensuing free throw to put Okeechobee up by a point, and helped them secure the win.
“I am proud of all the girls and both the varsity and the jv,” said coach BJ Pryor. “They will be strong teams in 2023/24 season with great leaders on both squads.”
