The Glades Day Gators fell to the King's Academy Lions on Sept. 18, 41-20.
By halftime the Gators trailed by only a point, 13-12, after a small rally thanks to a touchdown run from Damian Cunningham and another touchdown through the air from quarterback Dylan Wilkins to Hardley Gilmore.
But after halftime the Lions switched to their hurry up offense and put a Gators squad that had missed the first game of the season due to quarantine back on their heels.
Glades Day's Dante Marquez made a spectacular play on offense near the end of the forth quarter. Trailing 34-12, the Gators were desperate to add another touchdown to keep up with King's Academy's fast paced offense. Wilkins was chased out of the pocket and launched a pass to a receiver downfield but a Lions defender batted down the ball. Maquez, who was trailing the intended receiver, stayed alert and scooped up the batted pass before it hit the ground. He then took it to the house for a touchdown.
On their next offensive possession though, the Lions drove the length of the field to score another touchdown to stick a dagger in the Gator's hopes of a comeback.
