WEST PALM BEACH — Clewiston senior Oran Singleton Jr. was awarded Most Valuable Player at the Palm Beach County All-Star football game on Jan. 16.
On a field full of the best players from one of the most stacked football counties in the state, the Clewiston student-athlete looked to be the fastest player on the field.

Singleton represented Clewiston on the American All-Star team, taking on National. He scored the first touchdown of the game on a nearly 80-yard punt return in the first quarter. Overall Singleton scored two touchdowns in American’s 23-3 win over National.

American head coach Jimmy Robertson had nothing but praise for Singleton before the game.

“I haven’t seen speed like that in a long time,” said Robertson to New Era Preps. “I’ve coached some pretty fast players, but he’s something special. Not only with the way he can stop and start, but just his straight away speed. That kid has some special talent.”

Oran was apart of one of the most memorable and dramatic moments of the Tigers’ 2020 season.

Down by two points with six seconds left in their game against American Heritage, Clewiston Tigers coach Pete Walker sent out his field goal unit to secure the win.

But when American Heritage Stallion defenders came bursting through the line, placeholder Oran Singleton picked up the ball and took off toward the corner of the end zone. Once he evaded those first defenders, it was all over. Singleton did what he had done all game and switched into a gear that the opposing team just didn’t have. Singleton dove into the end zone untouched to put Clewiston up 29-24.

“We were in great position for the field goal,” said Tigers coach Walker after the game. “But we also have a great athlete in Oran Singleton. He saw the guys come down hard off the edge, pulled it, ran it in and got us a touchdown instead of three points. What a big play. And what a drive to get it down there by our young men.”

Singleton has committed to the University of Akron as a wide receiver where he will continue his education and football career next year.
