Weekly Clothesline: Be a true Christian…

Posted

What is a true Christian? Some think it’s about being baptized, attending church occasionally, and doing good deeds. In truth, that definition falls short…very short. So, how do we use our Christianity to create an oasis of hope in a world desperately needing stability and immersion in Jesus?

I once heard a story of such a Christian who was sitting around a campfire with a trusted friend. He told his friend that he was lonely, had little joy in his life, and couldn’t understand how his Christianity had failed him. His friend listened to his laments but never spoke a word. Instead, he reached for a set of tongs and removed a burning coal from the fire. He set it on the ground. The coal had been burning hot while it was a part of a bed of glowing coals. Before long, however, the coal removed from the fire gradually cooled down, and its red flame died out. A few minutes later, the friend returned the coal to the fire, and before long, the cooled-down piece of coal became red hot again, returning to the state for which it was intended.

Do you get it? The solitary Christian is missing the fire he is intended to possess. We are meant to worship together, to grow together, to burn brightly together. How else can we show the world the Light of Christ? Find a church!
