Glades Central Alumni gather for Raider Roundup

Posted

ORLANDO -- Glades Central Community High School for many years has been known for its powerhouse and elite football players. Glades Central has produced some of the world’s finest students, with doctors, lawyers, chancellors, mayors, actors, educators, engineers and entrepreneurs amongst those professional football players.

The last weekend in July some of those astonishing members of Glades Central Community High School, including Melanie Bolden-Morris (GCHS 1989 graduate and current principal) united for their fourth consecutive year at the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando,  for what is now known as the Raider Roundup.

Alumni from 1976-1993 integrate the last weekend in July for a joyous and memorable event. This is also an opportunity to recognize notable graduates, as well as provide important issues that is taking place in the Glades. The goal is to encourage graduates to continuously support their alma mater as well as their community.

Featured moments included the bowling tournament, a t-shirt contest and a western theme event. Over 800 alumni attended the weekend.

Special thanks go to Kristin McClone, Rosen Centre Conference Center sales manager; Adam Frisher, Rosen Centre Hotel Convention Service; Catering Manager Sean Harvey, Boardwalk Bowl Event Coordinator; Bridgette Pretro of Academy Bus Company; and DJ Chris Humphries.

Glades Central Alumni closed their event with a breakfast and the singing of the high school’s alma mater. Class of 1988 bowling champions will be recognized during one of the home football games.

Congratulations to D’end Greer, Class of 1984, event coordinator, and the Raider Roundup committee: Lisa Butts Wilson, Class of 1984; Sophia Dukes Baldwin, Class of 1983; Josette Bell Smith, Class of1989; and Demetrius Greer, Class of 1990, for a well-executed event.
