Child found to falsely accuse teen of battery

OKEECHOBEE — Deputy Jackie Timmons was dispatched to the jail lobby on Sunday, Jan. 14 after a woman said her 7-year-old son was hit in the mouth by a teenager.

The woman said they were at a birthday party, and her son went to get a drink out of a cooler when the older boy hit him in the mouth and shoved him to the ground.

The 7-year-old said he went to the cooler and found two teen boys sitting on it. When he asked them to get up so he could get a drink, one rose but the other did not. This was the one he said hit him and threw him to the ground.

The woman said she did not know who the boy was but thought the person whose home they were visiting would probably know.

The deputy went to the home on Northwest 24th Street and spoke to the resident, who said he had security cameras and should be able to provide footage from the time of the alleged incident.

When the deputy viewed the surveillance video, it allegedly showed the young boy approach the two teens and exchange words. Then the 7-year-old began hitting one of the teens. That boy tried to restrain him and then placed him on the ground. No footage showed the boy being hit in the mouth.

Because the younger boy appeared to be the primary aggressor, the older boy was not charged, and the investigation was closed.
