Legion hosting events
OKEECHOBEE — VFW Post 64, 501 S.E. Second St., will host the following events: On Wednesday, Jan. 6, there will be margaritas all day and tacos from 11 a.m. to 5:45 p.m., and the grill will be open, too. Music by Crystal Byrd is from 3 to 6 p.m. On Thursday, Jan. 7, sign up to win a $20 bar tab. Purchase buckets of beer and screwdrivers all day. Five-card bingo is from 4 to 6 p.m. Lunch will be served all day. On Friday, Jan. 8, the Auxiliary will host a fish fry. Wear red to get registered for a free dinner for two. The kitchen is open from 5 to 8 p.m. and music by Cheryl and Phil is from 6 to 9 p.m. On Saturday, Jan. 9, Happy Hour is all day with buckets of domestic beer. On Sunday, Jan. 10, watch NFL games and purchase drafts with wing specials. On Monday, Jan. 11, five-card bingo is from 1 to 3 p.m. Lunch begins at 11 a.m. On Tuesday, Jan. 12, sign up for your choice of any bottle in stock drawn on the first Tuesday of each month. Lunch is served all day. Meeting is at 6 p.m. Purchase buckets of beer and Bloody Marys all day. For any take-out orders, call ahead at 863-763-5309.

VFW to stage events
OKEECHOBEE — VFW Post 4432, 300 N.W. 34th St., will host the following events: On Wednesday, Jan. 6, three-card bingo is at 1 p.m. On Thursday, Jan. 7, dauber bingo is at 1 p.m. On Friday, Jan. 8, dauber bingo is at 1 p.m. and karaoke with Lisa is at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, is bingo appreciation day with dauber bingo at 1 p.m., food, door prizes and more! On Monday, Jan. 11, three-card bingo is at 1 p.m. On Tuesday, Jan. 12, dauber bingo is at 6 p.m.

Our Village moves
OKEECHOBEE — Our Village will open at their Family Life Center, 205 N.E. Second St., on Friday, Jan. 8, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Social distancing and masks required. For information, call or test Leah at 863-697-8718.

S.A.R. has a yard sale
OKEECHOBEE — The Okeechobee Chapter of the Sons of American Revolution will hold a yard sale on Saturday, Jan. 9, at 1690 S.W. 28th St. (Wolff Road) from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. All proceeds help support SAR, community projects and local service. Direction: Turn at Pizza Hut on U.S. 441 south onto Wolff Road and follow signs for 2 miles. There will be household items, tools, fishing, camping, golf and much more.

Friends to meet at library
OKEECHOBEE — The Friends of the Library of Okeechobee will meet on Wednesday, Jan. 13, at 4 p.m. in the large room at the Okeecchobee County Library, 216 S.W 16th St. Open to residents and visitors of Okeechobee. Current hours are Tuesday through Satuday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Friends assist and support the library with programs and activities for everyone. If you are interested in joining, please attend a meeting or inquire at the front desk of the library.

Veteran van has new location
OKEECHOBEE — The Okeechobee VA Veteran van will pick up at the Popeye’s parking lot, 822 N.W. Park St., due to the closing of Burger King for renovations. The van will pick up as usual at 6:30 a.m. for passengers who have a prior reserved seat. To reserve a seat, call the Veteran Service Office at 863-763-6441, extension 5.

Church holds yard sale
LAKEPORT — The Point of Light Fellowship Church, 15399 SR 78 E., will have a yard sale on Thursday, Jan. 14 and Friday, Jan. 15 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lots of items, furniture, household, fishing, handmade items, books, shoes purses, pet items, clothes, baby and kid items will be on display. BHR VFW to host events
BUCKHEAD RIDGE — VFW Post 9528, 29012 State Road 78 E., will host the following events: On Wednesday, Jan. 6, burgers and fries will be served from 12:30 to 2 p.m. and quarter bingo is from 2 to 4 p.m. The VFW Auxiliary will serve Vicki’s spaghetti and meatballs at 5 p.m. On Thursday, Jan. 7, dauber bingo is from 1 to 4 p.m. On Friday, Jan. 8, three-card bingo from noon to 2 p.m. The post will serve dinner from 5:30 to 7 p.m. with music by Capt. JJ from 6 to 10 p.m. On Saturday, Jan. 9, the VFW Riders will serve a full breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. and wings and fries at 5 p.m. On Sunday, Jan. 10, the VFW Auxiliary will serve a full breakfast from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. and five-card bingo is at 5 p.m. On Monday, Jan. 11, washers at 1 p.m., Wii Bowling is at 4 p.m. and five-card cookie bingo at 6 p.m. followed by right-left-center. On Tuesday, Jan. 12, Sons’ sliders are at 5:30 p.m. and cornhole is at 6:30 p.m. On Wednesday, Jan. 13, the VFW will serve Reubens and fries at 5 p.m. Proceeds from all events benefit veteran services. Vaccinations to be given Jan. 8
CLEWISTON — The Department of Health in Hendry County, 1100 S. Olympia St. in Clewiston, will accept appointments for the COVID-19 vaccinations for Friday, Jan. 8, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 4 p.m. To make an appointment, call 863-983-1408.
COVID-19 vaccine shall only be given to the following populations (Must have proper ID):
• Long-term care facility residents and staff;
• Persons 65 years of age and older; and
• Health care personnel with direct patient contact

Republicans to meet
LABELLE — The Republican Party of Hendry County will hold a meeting at Beef O Brady’s, 21 S. Lee St., on Monday, Jan. 18, at 6 pm. All registered Republican-minded Americans are invited to attend. There will be adequate spacing. For information, call 863-234-8397.

Kiwanis cancels Kid’s Day
LABELLE — For the safety of the community, the Kiwanis Club of LaBelle will not host Kid’s Day on Jan. 21. Kiwanis appreciates the support from the community with Kid’s Day participation and looks forward to hopefully seeing everyone in October 2021.

Food to be distributed
BELLE GLADE — Glades Initiative, 141 S.E. Avenue C, will hold its weekly food distribution on Wednesday, Jan. 13, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Those coming in cars are asked to line up beside the office for drive-through pick-up. Both drivers and walkers will receive food bags on a first-come-first-serve basis. It is asked that drivers and their passengers remain in their vehicles and practice social distancing measures to keep everyone safe.

DHCAC shows free movie
