DOH-Okeechobee receives funding to supply transportation

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — HeartlandRides.org has received funding to supply transportation in Okeechobee County and has contracted with MTM Transportation.

MTM Transportation has a 5-year contract to provide transportation in Okeechobee County. https://heartlandrides.org/mtm-transit/

MTM Transit is the Community Transportation Coordinator (CTC) providing door-to-door transportation needed to live a healthy life - medical appointments, employment, education, shopping, social activities and other life-sustaining services in DeSoto, Hardee, Highlands, and Okeechobee counties. Trips are funded by the Transportation Disadvantaged Trust Fund, rural public transportation grants, and local funds.

To register for services visit: https://heartlandrides.org/

The more Okeechobee residents that register for the service, the more need is shown in our area, which means more resources will be dedicated to Okeechobee County. It takes approximately five days for the registration to become active before an appointment can be made for transportation. Transportation is by appointment only and they require a 24 to 48 hour window for reservations. Even if the person doesn’t need transportation now, they may need it in the future. Please help to spread the word so we can get this information out to the public.
