GAINESVILLE- The Florida High School Athletic Association board of directors released new districts, regions, and classifications for the 2021 season on March 15.

Eight classification will exist in 2021, the same as in recent years. Class 8A will be populated with school of enrollment of larger than 2,356, 7A between  2,355 - 1,924, 6A between  1,923 - 1,582, 5A 1,581 - 1,137 and 4A between 1,136 - 740. The smallest schools in the state will play in classes 3 though 1, with 3A schools having an enrollment between 739 - 361, 2A 360 and below and 1A having enrollment 600 & below and a rural designation.

In Pahokee High School’s 1A region 4 Bronson, Fort Meade, Hawthorne, Newberry, Wildwood, and Williston are all returning.  Taylor Pierson and Bradford Starke will be the two newcomeers this year.

In Glades Central and Clewiston’s 4A region 3 American Heritage, Lakewood, Lemon Bay, Somerset Canyons, and Tenoroc are all returning. Davenport, Discovery, and Parrish will be joining the region.

In Moore Haven and Glades Day’s 2A region 4 Champagnat Catholic, Marathon, Miami Christian and Westminster Academy will all be back. Newcomers to the region include Archbishop Carroll, Avant Garde, Dade Christian, John Carroll and Village Academy .

Finally, in Okeechobee’s 6A region 2, Port St. Lucie and South Fork will be back in district 8. Suncoast will be joining the Brahman’s district this year. Okeechobee post season rival last year Sebastian River has moved up to 7A.

Last year the COVID-19 pandemic forced some schools to move away from the FHSAA and organize their own football regions. In 2020 Pahokee and Glades Central in Palm Beach County, usually perennial state contenders, participated in a tri-county playoff instead. With vaccinations starting to ramp up, the FHSAA is planning on their state playoffs being back at full strength in late 2021.
