Football around the lake this week: Sept. 1

Posted

  • Okeechobee Brahmans (1-0)

The Okeechobee Brahmans shut out the DeSoto County Bulldogs 49-0 last week.  That score could’ve easily been more than 60 plus if not for a few missed scoring opportunities by the Brahmans in the first quarter. This week the Brahmans play a Thursday game, on Aug. 31. They are on the road taking on the 0-1 St. Edward's Pirates at 7 p.m.

  • Clewiston Tigers (1-0)

The Clewiston Tigers pulled out a dramatic win in their season opener, hanging on to beat the Key West Conchs  28-21 last week.  The Conchs had three chances to take the lead near the end of the fourth quarter, and the Clewiston defense stood strong and denied them all. This week the Tigers are headed to Sebring to face the back-to-back 3S district 11 champion Blue Streaks. Clewiston and Sebring kickoff at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 1.

  • Moore Haven Terriers (0-1)

The Moore Haven Terriers were shut out by Leesburg 42-0 last week. Leesburg racked up nearly 250 yards through the air on the Terrier defense, with quarterback Salomon Georges throwing four touchdowns. This week the Terriers will attempt to bounce back when they host the 0-1 Hollins Royals at 7 p.m. on Sept. 1.

  • Pahokee Blue Devils (0-1)

The Pahokee Blue Devils fell to the Santaluces Chiefs 38-14 last week. Pahokee sophomore Xavier Mitchell had a touchdown pass to fellow sophomore Cedtron Washington, and junior Rashon Brown rushed for another touchdown. The Blue Devils are on the road this week, facing former Glades Central coach Rashad Jackson and his new team the Inlet Grove Hurricanes. Pahokee and Inlet Grove kickoff at 7 p.m. on Sept. 1.

  • Glades Day Gators (0-1)

The Glades Day Gators were defeated by the LaBelle Cowboys 23-14 last week. The Cowboys rushed for almost 300 yards against the Gators. This week the Gators are on the road taking on Somerset Academy Canyons. Somerset took last year’s matchup against Glades Day 27-13. The two teams kick off at 7 p.m. on Sept. 1.

  • Glades Central Raiders (0-1)

The Glades Central Raiders were defeated by the Seminole Ridge Hawks 20-9 last week. Sophomore Taj Barnes scored the lone touchdown for Glades Central, while seven different Raiders recorded receptions during the game. This week the Raiders are on the road playing the 0-1 King’s Academy Lions starting at 7 p.m. on Sept. 1.
