Football around the lake this week: Sept. 8

Posted

Last week Okeechobee moved to 2-0 while down south of the lake. Pahokee and Moore Haven got their first wins of the season. They will all try to build off that momentum as they head out under the Friday night lights again this week.

  • Okeechobee Brahmans (2-0)

The Okeechobee Brahmans bulldozed their way to a 44-0 victory over St. Edward’s last week. Quarterback Ni’marion Bryant rushed for five touchdowns, and the Brahman defense secured its second consecutive shutout. Next, after two weeks on the road, the Brahmans are finally home. Okeechobee hosts Ambassador Christian Academy at 7 p.m. tonight.

  • Clewiston Tigers (1-0)

The Clewiston Tigers were victims of the volatile South Florida weather last week, as their game against the Sebring Blue Streaks was canceled due to a thunderstorm in the area. This week, the Tigers are on a bye. But next week, they’ll be on the road taking on the Calvary Christian Academy Eagles on Sept. 15. The Eagles took last year’s matchup between the two teams 25-14.

  • Moore Haven Terriers (1-1)

The Moore Haven Terriers bounced back from their week one loss to Leesburg by defeating the Hollins Royals 30-0. This week the Terriers will travel to Miami to face the 1-1 Westminster Christian Warriors. And after that, Moore Haven is headed to Georgia to take on the Appling County Pirates on Sept. 15.

  • Pahokee Blue Devils (1-1)

The Pahokee Blue Devils also bounced back from their week one loss. The Blue Devils defeated the Inlet Grove Hurricanes 29-6.  Pahokee senior Jenorris Wilcher Jr had two touchdown runs and led the team in rushing with 76 yards on the ground. The defense notched five sacks and four interceptions against Inlet Grove. This week, Pahokee is on the road playing the undefeated Palm Beach Lakes Rams on Sept. 8 at 6:30 p.m.

  • Glades Central Raiders (0-2)

The Glades Central Raiders fell to the King’s Academy Lions last week 43-0 in a district matchup. Their next district game is a little over a month from now when they host the Inlet Grove Hurricanes. But first, the Raiders host a very good American Heritage Patriots team at 6:30 p.m. on Spet. 8 in Belle Glade.

  • Glades Day Gators (0-3)

The Glades Day Gators fell 45-0 to Somerset Academy last week. This week they played a Thursday game,  on Sept. 7, against the Jupiter Christian Eagles. The Gators came up short, losing 48-20. Still searching for their first win, the Gators will host the Marco Island Academy Rays next week on Sept. 15.
