OKEECHOBEE — After he was reportedly found sleeping in the middle of U.S. 441 Southeast, a local man was charged with DUI. On Saturday, March 13, just after midnight, Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Deputy Brandon Greis responded to the 1700 block of U.S. 441 Southeast in reference to a report of a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road.
When Greis arrived, he found a black Nissan utility vehicle stopped in the street. According to Greis’ report, he approached the vehicle on the passenger side and found the driver sound asleep behind the wheel. The gear shift was in drive. Greis knocked on the window for several minutes before the driver awoke. When the driver, identified as Robert Allen Pohl, 57, woke up, he was dazed and confused, taking several seconds to become alert enough to unlock the door. The report notes as Pohl spoke, his voice became more and more slurred but there was no odor of alcohol on his breath. His breath test results were 0.00 and 0.00.
Bond was set at $500.
