OCSO identifies body found in rim canal

OKEECHOBEE – The Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office seeks the public’s help with information about a man whose body was found floating in the rim canal on Sunday.

On Aug. 7, at 8:57 a.m., OCSO received a call in the 800 block of U.S. Highway 441 S.E. involving a body seen floating in the rim canal at the base of the Herbert Hoover Dike.

The deceased man was removed from the water by law enforcement and has been identified as Alex A. Garland, 27, of Okeechobee. Garland had been reported missing by his family on Aug. 6. He had not been seen by his family since Friday, Aug. 5.

The investigation is ongoing.

OCSO asks anyone who has information regarding the death of Alex A. Garland to contact OCSO Detective Quinton Speed at 863-763-3117, extension 5103 or leave an anonymous tip with Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 800-273-8477.
