Okeechobee Fire Report

• Okeechobee City Fire Department responded to 20 medical/EMS, four fire related, two motor vehicle accidents, one false alarm and two dispatch and canceled calls between Feb. 1 and Feb. 7.
• Okeechobee County Fire Rescue responded to 132 medical/EMS, seven fire related, 11 motor vehicle accidents, five aircraft stand by, 11 dispatch and canceled and eight miscellaneous calls last week. Of 108 possible transports, six were refused.
• On Feb. 4 at approximately noon, OCFR responded to a call regarding a grass fire in the 12000 block of Northwest 160th Street. The Forest Service was requested as well. When the crew arrived, they found approximately 1.5 acres of a sod field burning at a slow to moderate rate of speed. they were able to contain the fire until the DOF arrived. At that time, a plow line was established around the perimeter and the fire was contained.

• On Feb. 5 at approximately 11 a.m., OCFR responded to acall regarding a building fire in the 2700 block of Southeast 47th Terrace. When they arrived, they found a motor home fully involved and a double wide with smoke showing from the back of the structure. A patient was on the ground on all four extremities, breathing heavily. The crew was unable to verify if there were any others inside the structure. A paramedic stayed with the patient until EMS arrived. The fire was found to be contained in a bedroom closet. The fire was contained, and FPL pulled the meter. The patient was transported to Raulerson Hospital.
A preliminary report from the fire marshal states a lamp may have caused the fire.
• On Feb. 7 at approximately noon, OCFR responded to a call regarding a cooking fire in the 800 block of Northeast 64th Avenue. When they arrived, they found no fire. Occupants said they extinguished the fire themselves. The cause was believed to be faulty equipment or an electrical issue. Gas and electric was terminated until the stove can be replaced.
