Okeechobee man killed in DeSoto County crash

DESOTO COUNTY – A 45-year-old Okeechobee man was killed in a collision on State Road 70 in DeSoto County on Sept. 26 at 7:47 p.m.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) report, Vehicle 1, a sedan driven by an Okeechobee man, 45, was traveling east on State Road 70, east of County Line Road.

Vehicle 2, a sports utility vehicle, driven by a 50-year-old Pinellas woman, was traveling west on State Road 70, east of County Line Road.

According to the FHP report, the eastbound sedan entered the westbound travel lane, in an attempt to pass another eastbound traveling vehicle. The front of the sedan collided with the front of the SUV. Post collision, the sedan traveled off the roadway and came to final rest on the southern ditch. Post collision, the SUV was redirected to the north, and overturned onto the North side ditch.

The driver of the sedan died in the crash, according to the FHP report.

The SUV driver and three passengers were seriously injured, the report states. Passengers in the SUV included a 66-year-old Fruitland Park man, a 31-year-old Saint Petersburg woman and a 32-year-old St. Petersburg woman.

The crash remains under investigation.
