OKEECHOBEE — “I truly believe God put me there today.” That is what 16-year veteran PBCFR Captain Dittmer said about the Jan. 7 incident in Okeechobee County. He made a last minute decision to go help friends clear some land in Okeechobee County. While working, they witnessed a crash that happened right in front of them. Without hesitation, he went into action, gaining entry to the truck, and providing life-saving care to a patient who was trapped. He was also able to communicate vital information to OCFR’s dispatch, so their crews knew exactly what they were dealing with before arrival. Once Okeechobee County Fire Rescue arrived on scene, they all worked seamlessly, with one objective, to safely remove the patient. OCFR reports that two patients were transported to a Trauma Center as a result of their injuries. [Courtesy photos]
