OKEECHOBEE- The Okeechobee High School Brahmans are district champions.

The OHS Brahman varsity baseball team defeated the South Fork Bulldogs 4-3 in the 5A District 14 championship on April 29.

Enoch Busbin got the start on the mound for the Brahmans, and he was able to hold the Bulldogs to just two runs through the first three innings. In the bottom of the third the Okeechobee offense finally started clicking.

Bryce Ward opened with a lead off single. He then tried to steal second and South Fork’s attempt to pick him off backfired in a big way, with the ball sailing over the second basemen’s head and into center field. Ward rounded second and settled at third base. Two pitches later, Mason Diefenbach hit a ball deep into right field that was dropped by the Bulldog outfielder. Mason turned that error into a double and Ward scored to make it 2-1.

Next Braison Crews stepped to the plate and hit a double of his own, a grounder that zipped past the Bulldog infielders and scored Diefenbach to tie the game 2-2.

Jayce Markham put Okeechobee in the lead 3-2 one batter later with a well-hit grounder that scored Crews.

South Fork eventually tied things back up again in the fifth, but Gavin Kindell drove in a clutch RBI on a grounder in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead for the Brahmans.

Up next the Brahmans head to the regional quarterfinal , where they’ll host the 19-5 Eau Gallie Commodores at 7 p.m. on May 6. OHS will hold two regional playoff games that night, as the Lady Brahman softball team also won their district championship and are hosting the Bayside Lady Bears on the softball field.
