Police officers receive life-saving awards

Posted

OKEECHOBEE — Okeechobee City Police Officers Dalton Pitts and Rafael Castaneda were presented with life-saving awards for their part in saving the life of an Okeechobee man on June 3. They responded to a fire in the Tanglewood Apartments and were told by one resident that one of the apartments still had someone inside. With no regard for their own safety, they made a forced entry into the apartment where they found the resident injured and unable to get out by himself. They assisted him out of the building and away from the fire and smoke. “I can’t thank you guys enough for your act of heroism,” said Police Chief Donald Hagan.
