OKEECHOBEE – Okeechobee motorists who travel U.S. 98 can expect detours May 21-June 2.

The Florida Department of Transportation began work in February 2023 to make improvements to U.S. 98 from north of N.W. 80th Avenue to State Road 70 in Okeechobee County. Beginning May 21, at 11 p.m., U.S. 98 will be closed until June 2, near the railroad tracks.

Detours will be in place for commercial truck traffic and for local traffic. Law enforcement officers will be on site to help direct motorists.

Trucks will have a long detour using N.W. 160th Street (CR 68) to U.S. 441. to State Road 70. Trucks traveling northbound to access the Okeechobee Livestock Market will use U.S. 441 to N.W. Ninth Street west into the northern lot on U.S. 98.

The local traffic detour will use N.W. Ninth Street, N.W. Ninth Avenue and N.W. Sixth Street.
