School bus goes in ditch: No children were on board

Posted

OKEECHOBEE -- An Okeechobee County school bus went into a ditch off U.S. 441 N. near the pet cemetery this morning (Oct. 25). The bus driver was taken to Urgent Care to be checked out.

No children were on the bus as the time of the accident.

In response to an email from the Lake Okeechobee News, Okeechobee County Superintendent of Schools Ken Kenworthy  explained: "A vehicle passed too close causing bus to leave the road."

According to  Okeechobee County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Jack Nash, the school bus was making a left turn on Northeast 300th Street when a car attempted to pass both a van and the school bus.

The driver of the car was injured in the accident. He was also found at fault for the crash and ticketed.
