OKEECHOBEE – The Okeechobee Community Easter Sunrise Service will be April 17 from 6 to 8 a.m. at the C. Scott Driver Facility on State Road 78.
At their Feb. 24 meeting, Okeechobee County Commissioners waived the facility use fees and allowed the Okeechobee Ministerial Association to reserve the facility from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The commissioners also agreed to waive the fees for the use of the same facility for Easter Sunday 2023, and approved the use of the outdoor grounds of the Historic Okeechobee County Courthouse and the Okeechobee County Judicial Center for the National Day of Prayer observance on the first Thursday in May.
In other business, the commissioners waived the facility use fees for the Kiwanis Park Pavilion and open space area on Saturday, May 7 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a Family Homes Without Violence event sponsored by Martha’s House. The family fun event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Martha’s House is a non-profit organization that provides a wide range of support services to the survivors of domestic violence.
Bean also suggested the commissioners "rezone all homes in Okeechobee County to be violence free." Home should be a safe space, Bean said.
