OKEECHOBEE — On June 9, 2023 an incident took place at the La Placita Super Market, located at 1002 NW Park Street. Two Hispanic males were involved in a verbal dispute over monies owed from a transaction inside the store. The suspect, 65-year-old Jose Franco, waited until the store closed before carrying out an attack on victim, 54-year-old, Antonio Lorencio. Franco attacked Lorencio with a machete-like knife in the parking lot of the store causing injuries to the face and neck. Lorencio managed to get away, run home and the family called the police. Lorencio was transported to Raulerson Hospital for his injuries and has since been released.
Detective J. Boon located Franco and arrested him for attempted murder. Judge set bond at $500,000.
