Okeechobee High School senior Landon Arrants is this week’s Big Lake Athlete of the Week for his performance with the Brahman cross country team.

The Okeechobee boys’ cross country team won a title at the Wayne Cross Invitational on Sept. 14, with Arrants leading the Brahmans and finishing second with a time of 19:01. Wyatt Phillips  wasn’t far behind for Okeechobee, finishing sixth with a time of 19:58.

On Sept. 21 Okeechobee competed at Avon Park High School, with both the boys’ and girls’ teams finishing in second place. During that race, half the boys’ team recorded a new personal record and the girls had 4 of 6 get a personal record. Arrants once again led the Brahmans in Avon Park and finished second overall at Avon Park, finishing with a time of 17:47.49.

In the Spanish River Invitational on Sept. 23 in Boca Raton, Arrants finished with a time of 17:48.15.

Okeechobee cross country is coming off an appearance in the regionals last year.

Next the Brahmans will be at South Fork on Oct. 13 to compete in the Treasure Lake Conference Cross Country Championship. After that, they’ll be at the Avon Park Bombing Range to compete in the AP Bombing Range Invitational on Oct. 14.
