Arcadia man charged with DUI manslaughter

After an exhaustive criminal investigation into a June 28, 2023, single vehicle crash on State Road 70, Highlands County, involving a passenger fatality, the Florida Highway Patrol arrested the driver, Alexis Zamora, age 27, of Arcadia, for DUI Manslaughter on Oct. 19, 2023.

According to the FHP report, the accident occurred on June 28, at 10:13 p.m. on State Road 70 near Robert McGee Road in Highlands County.

A sports utility vehicle (SUV) was traveling west on State Road 70, west of Robert McGee Road. The SUV traveled off the roadway right, and entered the north grass shoulder. The right side of the SUV collided with a concrete utility pole. A passenger in the vehicle – a 27-year-old Arcadia man -- was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver – a 27-year-old Arcadia man -- sustained serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
