Highlands Hammock announces Music in the Park Concert Series

Posted

SEBRING — Highland Hammock has a jam-packed schedule of Music in the Park concerts for the 2023-2024 season. Concerts are two hours in length and run from 7 to 9 p.m.

The series begins on Oct. 14 with one of Florida’s most original musicians, “Sauce Boss” Bill Wharton, who is well known for serving up gumbo at his concerts. Although he will not be cooking at this concert, concertgoers will be treated to a spicy mix of blues, swamp funk, slide guitar and drums. Jimmy Buffett fans will recall his tribute to Sauce Boss in the song ‘I Will Play for Gumbo.’ Bill Wharton is a truly soulful one-man band, who promises a lively evening and high-energy entertainment in his first appearance at Highlands Hammock.

Rick Arnold, who worked with Hank Williams, Jr., makes a welcome return to the series. The Kentucky native who spent time in Nashville and was “raised on country and born to rock,” is booked for Nov. 18.

J.P. Soars and the Red Hots will end the year with rocking rhythm and blues on Dec. 19.

Paisley Craze, known for their anthology of 60s music covering the British Invasion to the Beach Boys to Woodstock, will kick off the New Year on Jan. 20.

Indiana native Malachi Jaggers will bring his unique blend of country and Midwest heartland rock to the park on Feb. 17.

Packrat’s Men of the Swamp, formerly Smokehouse, known for their eclectic mix of earthy Mississippi Delta blues and Chicago-style urban blues are scheduled for March 23.

Local favorite Harry Havery and the California Toe Jam Band will close out the series on April 20 with the best classic rock of the 1960s and 70s.

Admission for all concerts is $10 per adult. Accompanied children 12 years and younger are free of charge. Admission applies to both campers and day visitors. Pets are not permitted, so please, no dogs. Music in the Park concerts are sponsored by the Friends of Highlands Hammock State Park. Concert proceeds benefit park improvements. Bring blankets, lawn chairs, and flashlights and enjoy an evening of music under the stars. Refreshments and food are provided by the Hammock Inn concession and food vendors. Park entry fees of $6 per vehicle with up to 8 people, are waived after 6 p.m. on concert nights. Call the Ranger Station at 863-386-6094 for more information. Highlands Hammock is located at 5931 Hammock Road in Sebring.
