OKEECHOBEE- The Okeechobee High School Brahman varsity basketball team opened its season with a win on Dec. 1, beating the Moore Haven Terriers 60-45.

The Terriers dropped to 1-1 following the loss. Last week Moore Haven won its season opener against Lake Placid.

The Terriers managed to keep things tight between the two teams in the first quarter. Okeechobee jumped out to an early lead, but fouls by the Brahmans gave Moore Haven the opportunity to tie things at 10-10 at the end of the first quarter.

The Okeechobee defense forced multiple turnovers in the first half, but missed shots on the ensuing fast breaks off those turnovers kept the Brahmans from puling away from the Terriers . At halftime Moore Haven only trailed by two points, 20-18.

In the third quarter though, the Brahmans dominated. Okeechobee outscored the Terriers 22-9. And although Moore Haven was able to tighten things back up in the fourth, the lead the Brahmans had built was too much to overcome.

Okeechobee has another home game tonight. They host the 0-1 Fort Pierce Westwood Panthers at 7 p.m. Moore Haven will host its first home game of he season, as the 2-0 Neumann Celtics make the trip to south of the lake. The Terriers and Celtics tip-off at 7 p.m.
