OKEECHOBEE — On Saturday, April 20 from 10-11:30 a.m., LaSala will be offfering a free self defense seminar for women and girls.  Please call or email to register.

LaSala's Big "O" Dojo, located in the Cedar Plaza on Southwest Third Terrace, is owned and operated by Master Chris LaSala and offers Christ-centered martial arts.

On January 6th, the dojo opened up six days per week. "Our options for classes are now our ministry Night, grappling/Judo class, MMA, 13 & up class, and private/group lessons," said LaSala. The cost for these classes varies, and sibling discounts are available. Please call or email to discuss this.

One of the most unique things about LaSala’s dojo is that he considers it a ministry, and gives one night per week back to God. On that night, they hold a 30-minute Bible study at the beginning of class and then follow up with a one-hour martial arts class. The Bible study is non-denominational. “We just preach out of the Bible. We just preach Jesus and salvation through him.” They are not teaching any religious practices. Children aged 3 and up are welcome, and he encourages families to do the class together. The cost for that class is a minimum donation of $3 per student. You do not have to register ahead of time. Just show up wearing comfortable clothes.

“My father started Karate for Christ back in the late 1980s,” he said. “I grew up going to ministry nights and as an adult, I started taking it over for my father.”

In March, the group went to a grappling tournament in Port St. Lucie and all of theirstudents placed in the top 3 of their divisions!

If you are interested in taking any of the classes offered,  you can find them on Facebook or contact them by email: LaSalasBigODojo@gmail.com or phone: 772-204-5689.
